WOW!
This run is sweet! Well worth the 3 hour drive (one way) from the eastside to do this as a day trip. Or just camp out and make a weekend of it. Thanks to Bill Petty for leading this trip over Thanksgiving weekend. We had a great group of paddlers out there. This is a very remote section of river, so make sure to go with someone that has done it before. There are a few tricky spots, and if you get into trouble, ain't no one comin' to save you. The scenery is amazing - most of the run goes through a steep narrow canyon whith the river averaging 10-15 ft. wide in most places. There is a cool old fish ladder not far into the run that can be portaged or run, depending on comfort levels. Most of the other drops seemed pretty straightforward, as long as you paddle hard into and out of them. Being able to catch an eddy is very important on this stretch, and having a solid roll makes life a lot easier for everyone on the trip. Chasing swimmers and gear on this river is tricky.
