The 1st annual Halloween Howl featuring the Great Pumpkin Chase is just around the corner! It's Saturday, November 1st at Northwestern Lake and you're invited! Have you found a costume yet?

For those of you bold enough to dare the challenge, The Great Pumpkin Chase will be on the Middle White Salmon and will put your boating skills, and your luck, to the test.

Prizes, raffles, potluck BBQ, and great friends! This is what it's all about! Our sponsors have really stepped up with some amazing gear that's coming in daily. So put on your costume, get your paddling gear ready, and see if you can't scare yourself up a prize!

Schedule of Events:

12:oo pm - 12:45 pm: Registration opens at Northwestern Lake, WA

1:00 pm: Costume Contest at Northwestern Lake (incorporating your personal, non-motorized watercraft is highly encouraged)

1:45 pm: Carpool/set shuttle for chase (Directions available at registration)

2:30 pm: The Great Pumpkin Chase (a class III chase with class IV skills)

3:30 pm - til sunset: Potluck BBQ, games, and a killer raffle with lots of prizes

Chase Details: Paddlers line up along a section of the Middle White Salmon River waiting for the Great Pumpkin to toss miniature pumpkins into the river. Paddlers race each other to collect the mini gourds, negotiate the section of river safely, and use the gourds  for a “pumpkin raffle” at the evening's BBQ. Chase Entrance Fee $10, includes 5 raffle tickets for the evening raffle as well as the chance to collect pumpkins for the “pumpkin raffle”.

Rules: The basic “No No’s”
- No pulling spray skirts off or deliberately trying to cause someone harm.
- No intentional paddle blades to the face.
- No intentional movements to make a flipped boat unsuccessful at their roll attempts.
- No touching of the “Pumpkin’s Boat”, you’ll be disqualified and must give back all of your pumpkins

A huge Thank You to our sponsors:

AT, IR, Kokatat, NRS, Outdoorplay, Wind Cellars, World Kayak, WRSI, Yakima

- We had an amazing turnout for the 1st annual Halloween Howl and Great

- Pumpkin Chase! With 44 registered chasers including a raft, the Great

- Pumpkin and the Grim Reaper had their work cut out for them! The two

- showed off their river skills paddling a tricky section of river while

- tossing pumpkins to the eager and enthusiastic crowd. And the chasers

- showed clever ingenuity in stashing pumpkins on their body while still

- hitting their lines! What a show for the crowd at Maytag!

-

- Just in case you're still wondering, as if their mad skills didn't

- give them away, our masked pumpkin leaders were none other than

- Heather and Nate Herbeck! They did a fantastic job providing a

- challenging chase and hitting those tight eddies! What a team!

-

- Fun chase, big laughs, cold swims, and hot food....all with great friends!

- That's what it's all about. Thanks for coming out!

-

- Oh, and the keys and throw rope found their way back to the owners but

- we do still have an unclaimed left handed size large NRS glove. Give a

- shout if it's yours.

-

- Here's a link to some shots of the chase. I'll post more as I get them.
