You may think "Hey this isn't a whitewater event"... well hey yourself, if you don't bust ass into the Pass before the current starts up, you gonna have all the whitewater you can handle.

Git your long boat out, sign up and be a real athlete --- 5 miles out-and-back through Deception Pass, with the race starting 15 minutes before slack high tide so you've got to hurry and beat the current, make the far turn and ride the big push back to the starting line. Ten sponsors have already stepped up, including major prizes from Werner, Kokatat, and Jackson.

If you don't want to race, then hang out and party at Bowman Bay campground the night before... and sign up to volunteer as a safety boater, timer, or BBQ chef.

Many thanks to everyone who made it out to DP for the second annual Dash. The race was invented on a whim one year ago by Don Kiesling and Will Robens, and attracted 35 racers... In year two we registered 111 racers.

The weather was dicey enough to keep some racers home in the snow, but 80 paddlers in 76 boats left the starting line together. The Seattle Times published this amazing shot of the racers heading Southwest to round Deception Island:

Press coverage was pretty thorough in Everett, Mt Vernon, and Anacortes...
