This is the Payette Goodness discussion thread. Please post any questions below.

Remember the actual Trip Details are located on the Payette Goodness | Trip Page

I wanna be warm for one more weekend this year!  The Payette has warm water and sick drops. The water sits all summer in the lake warming up and waiting to be let go!!

The drive is a bugger, its 350 miles to Silverwood, then 340 miles to Banks, and finally 550 miles back home. Oh but the sweetness!!

The main and lower Payette have some sweet park and play also, I just talked to a friend that says the Gutter is sweet, and Climax wave is flushy but as good as ever.
We are figuring on doing a minimun of 2 runs each day to offset the drive time. I like to have at least as much time on the water as in the car!  Gonna have to rack up about 20 hours in 2 days to do it right this weekend.

Newtobin,

If your headed to that area, consider running the Deadwood:

http://www.eddyflower.com/RunDetail.aspx?RunId=392

A beautiful and challenging wilderness run that will take you all day.  The take out for the deadwood is the put in for the Canyon stretch.  It is a bit more committing though because of its wilderness character.  Labor day weekend is the last weekend it will be running and I imagine there will be people doing it probably every day that weekend.  The shuttle is a bit of a challenge though.  Just a heads up in case you hadn't considered it.  I was actually planning on running it that weekend but it didn't work out.  Later

I miss boating in Idaho, but not enough to want to drive there this weekend.  You should just head up to B.C.

I'll be in on this trip if I can't get one rallied to the Thompson.  Are folks doing Friday-Monday or Friday-Tuesday?

The cut off for damn will be Sept 4th, it isn't determined what the new flow will be, but its gonna be pretty low.
It looks like this is the last good weekend for the NF.
The put in for Deadwood I think is closed due to a fire? I am getting some mixed info on that. So that run is only a maybe. The Canyon section should be in (low but doable ) instead of Deadwood.

Leif,
If you are coming you need to pull the trigger and commit one way or another. We are finalizing plans tonight.  It doesn't look like anyone is up for a BC trip and you are always welcome!
We are trying to take as few cars as possible over and it looks like Ambre and I will be riding with Adam and Megan. That is with another vehicle coming that can accomidate Ashley. If not, we willl probably drive Ambres car over to allow for more passenger room.

You make it sound like I am such a burden!! Adam even said that after having me in the car he is sure he doesn't want to have kids!

This helps....

YEEEEHAW.

Leif. You need to go. Five people in Adam's truck is tooooo much, and my little car is not driving to Idaho, at least without some serious gas money coming from not my bank account. We could fit a lot more stuff with your truck, and we like having you along, most of the time.

Ash - I was just kidding about the kids comment. We are waiting on tricycle motors because I don't want to deal with me at a younger age, yet.

Leif - I'd really like to see you come on over with us. We can work something out with the car pooling if you really don't want to bring your truck. Haven't boated with you in awhile, and it'd be nice to get another trip in before I bid everyone fairwell and head on over to the desert. I'll probably get one or two more short trips in, but this is the last throw down session for me. Not to mention I've really been craving some Leif-quality food; besides, the weather can't be beat or the water temps. Come on.

When you do... If I am still in the Sea-town, I'll bbsit. HAHA.

I was planning to make my mind up in the morning tomorrow (Wed).  I have another who was interested in the Thompson, but that doesn't seem to be happening.  I am not interested in going to an amusement park (and certainly not one that is second rate with hand-me-down coasters).  I am sure we can work something out with the carpool - I can hold plenty of people and playboats...

Tomorrow morning is several hours different than tonight...

We aren't going to the amusement park, as far as I know. Class III is more exciting, and not to mention cheaper and less crowded.

Well,  the verdict is in, and Silverwood is out!

Looks like a meet at Adam and Megans friday as soon as I can spring Ambre from work and then a long drive.
This gives us 3 river days and hopefully allot of vertical footage!
It would be great if you joined us Leif.  Did I mention I am hungry?

Newtobin,

Just so you know, Deadwood road is open (it was closed for fires until about a couple of weeks ago) and flows are in the prime range.  Here is some up to date beta.

http://www.kayakidaho.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,63/topic,396.0/

Looks like quite a few portages though.  Don't worry, I am done with my sales pitch now.  Deadwood or not, wish I could be up there doing those rivers, SF Canyon is one of my favorites.  Have fun.

I am in...there is no interest in the Thompson, and while it is closer, I am wanting to get some warmth this weekend.  I am happy to drive my truck (would rather ride with someone else, but oh well...).  I'd like to leave reasonably early in the day on Friday, and should have room for several people (I know I've got one passenger already).

Tobin: should I bring my creek boat?

Leif,
I am not bringing mine. we ran the Canyon in  playboats before. It depends on what you want on the NF.
I wont know for sure what time we are leaving on Friday, Ambre will be getting off early, but the time isn't determined yet. Latest will be leaving Adams house by 5.

OK, and camping is on hte SF road outta Banks,  there is a sweet spot just over the Alder Creek Bridge on the south (right) side of the road.  That is my first pick, but if full, there are dozens of places all along the SF,
They dont care about dirt campers in Idaho, like they do in Wa.

I was just on the phone to one of the folks looking at my rack drawing (since those guys at Eastside Custom Truck backed out after prommising end of August).  The guy mentioned he was going to the Payette, and invited us to his group camp site (group camp #1) at hot springs CG outside of garden valley on the south fork.

You guys have fun.  If you run short on space I know there are going to be a lot of boaters there from surrounding states who'll more than likely be gracious and offer you a spot in their group sites.  Fun people as well.
This will be the first labor day payette session i miss out on in a while and am a little bummed about it.  The whole SF stretch is a definate go in playboats and there's some good play on the canyon if you get a little creative.
Travel safe and have fun!  I guess I'll have to wait for the NF next year!
