Alright folks, the video contest is almost upon us. We are still set for beginning the contest around 7pm on Friday the 21st of November. Getting there early might net you some cold beer and off the record boating porn.

So far I have 4 entries, so if you're thinking of submitting something, do it! I would like to have the videos in my hands NLT Monday the 17th, so I can dry run the videos on the equipment we'll be using. If you have compression or export settings, email or call me and I can help you out.

We will be meeting at the Redmond Paddlesports retail location.
Address is: 15143 NE 90th St, Redmond.

Refreshments will be provided by Silvercity  Brewery. As we will not have a bar to back us up this year, I would suggest bringing an emergency ration of beer, just to be safe... if anyone wants to bring a six pack or two to add to the mix, I'm sure the crowds will not object.

There is a http://https://www.facebook.com/#!/SeaGnar - FB page that is kept marginally up to date. It's got all the pertinent info.

Can't wait to see everybody. This is gonna be a blast!

Hey Dan,
Thanks for putting this thing together. I tried to attend last year. But my children, then 7, 5, and 3 got me booted out. I'm hoping to attend this year. Looked like you guys were having too much fun.

Oh man, I'm sorry about last year Christian. It was probably too late to have kids in the bar. I honestly didn't think about that aspect at all. I apologize.

Stoked to see you this Friday though man, I feel like it's been ages since we last paddled.

We can probably talk Rob into doing some balloon tricks for the kids!

On another note, we are now looking at either 8 or 9 videos, after the push yesterday, so prepare your Livers and your Stoke Glands.

"SeaGnar", huh? Sounds a bit misleading, Dan. I highly doubt I can expect to "Sea" any Gnar (of the salty variety). Actually I went out to the coast w/ one of these (admittedly splendid) multi media trinkets, hoping to capture just that for the upcoming event.

But all the action that occured out there seemed to evade the blinking red light. That, combined with the fact that the swells weren't as big as the last time I was out on the rocky Pacific coast. And, well, I also gotta admit I didn't stick my neck out like I did last year. Last year's salt water douche left me pretty humble this time. A back ender in a 17' boat will do that, or a barrel roll in the middle of a sea arch with the surf dropping out to reveal a barnacle encrusted chunk of cheese grater rock thrust up millions of years ago by the subduction of the Juan De Fuca Plate... The place is heavy, man, and you can feel it.
One guy I was with got slammed against a sea stack and broached high and dry and had to swim. Minor damage to his fiberglass stern. Got to get involved in my first salt yak rescue. So, there is definitely some "Gnar to Sea" from one's cockpit out there.

Unlike the river though, you pretty much have to voluntarily submit yourself to it. Whereas on the river gravity just pulls you into gnar (sooner or later), which is convienient :D

I do have a few minutes of absolutely beautiful "Sick Footie Brah" (as Mr. Rogers continually jested). Not really, "sick", mind you, but definitely beautiful. I'd have slapped somethin together, but I don't have the edit capability at this time (I do have mad video editing intuition tho, so maybe next time). Besides, I figure y'nz whitewater junkies got no interest in the salty slosh of the mighty Pacific. And those places are so sacred I hesitate to reveal it anydamnhow.

Anyway, for now, no "show n tell" from me, just "tell". Cuz text is all I got to work with.

Can't wait to see what's on the program tho- thanks for organizing this again. see ya there

I dunno... I mean, I ain't gonna tell ya how to parent your offspring, but one has to wonder about the effects of exposing kids to porn at such an early age....

My advice: don't tell anyone at the PTA meetings. Hey, what happens on the river stays on the river, right?- just don't be surprised years later when the principal contacts you regarding un excused absences. At that point you want to go out to the garage or wherever your teen hangs up his or her gear- touch that skirt and see how wet it is...yup.

My big brother had a huge problem with this. He never went on to be a "porn star" (no one was back in the real back in the day), but he did get his leave from highschool to go to Europe and become junior world champion. This bimbo who was in his class ran into my mom in the supermarket and the exchange went something like this:
"Where's Jed?" She asked.
My proud Mom replied "He's currently racing in Italy"
"Italy?!" She recoiled, "I thought he was going to Europe!"
So, clearly, this poor girl's attendence did little if anything to further her education or intelligence. Not sure but odds are she was pregnant by some random douchebag before she was old enough to drink.

So, maybe you should bring your kids and expose them to some kayak porn afterall. Despite this sport's risks, and even some potential pitfalls regarding the lifestyle, it certainly kept my brother and I out of more trouble than it got us into. Just stay in school kids- you don't want to end up living out of a van (unless it's all pimped out like Utah Sam's! )

I would say it's kid-friendly, just remember that this is being put together by a guy with no kids...

Exercise good judgement; if your children can be exposed to a little bit of profanity and a lot of loud music. Totally. If you are worried that you might get a call from a teacher asking you why your child kept asking his/her friends if they wanted to go out for a safety-break... maybe not.

It's honestly up to you. My parents exposed me to this garbage at a young age and look what happened

Seriously though, I am more than stoked to have children at the event. Bear in mind though, that if you would find anything that typically goes down at the takeout of Tumwater or Icicle offensive or not child appropriate, then this might not be the best idea.

STOKED!!!!!!

Just wanted to say this was an awesome time, glad to see a great turn-out and 15 movies. Thanks Cascade Paddle Sports and Dan for putting this together, I know it took a lot of work and planning and we were not expecting a big food (actual hot food) and beverage line-up to boot, much appreciated!

JP, I wish we had footage of you ad-libbing during the parts when the video wouldn't play, that was classic Pacific NW kayaking goodness too. :)

It's all fun and games until someone loses a paddle.

What Irene said. Jean came along and had more fun than me; so great to see folks. And esp THANKS to Dan, all the sponsors and esp Paddlesports for making it happen.

Are there links to some of the entries? Jean wants to watch 'Two Girls One Boat' again. Thx.
