August 18th, 2012 Tumwater Chaos!

This is a race chaser start. It will start from the river left side of the pipeline bridge at the bottom of the Chaos Rapid. Racers will begin with a 800m run from the parking to the beach above Chaos where their boats will be staged for launch and begin the descent through the infamous Chaos rapid. This race is very much water dependant if the levels are above 1800cfs at the Peshastin gage the race will be moved another section of the river.

-       Boats classes will be as follows:

9’ and under
9’-01” and over. This class will be canceled if there are less than 6 or more participants.

-       Itinerary

10:00 – 10:30 am fill out waivers at Leavenworth Mtn Sports and go over event format.
10:30 – 11:00 am Shuttle to the event.
11:00 – 12:00 pm Race Time
12:00 – 1:00 pm Awards at the parking area for the Pipeline Trail aka: Rusty Red Bridge
I will be updating event details as we get closer to the date listed above so, check back for more details. I will also be looking for three volunteers to facilitate with the event logistics and setting saftey. Thanks and I will see you there!

This event is only sixteen days away and the water levels should be great. I have over 30 prizes to give away at this event for racers and event volunteers. I especially need volunteers to help set safety in through out the rapid, throw baggers, safety kayakers, and photographers.

Cheers

Sounds like fun! Thanks for organizing. Decent chance I'm in for both short and long boat.

Question:
Is it necessary to start at LMS and then have to go back to town right after running the rapid? Seems like a lot of rushing around when I'd rather be at the river. Wouldn't the Rusty Bridge be a good spot for the after ceremony?

Ben-
I'm going to be there too. Andrew expressed interest while we were paddling Tumwater the other day. He's gonna have the home court advantage as he'll be lapping Tumwater until the event. I guess we'll have to practice our running skills in the mean time.
We also talked about doing an 'unofficial' downriver race following the main event. I will bring both a short and long boat too.

Christian - you gonna join us?

I agree with just doing the awards at the parking for the Pipeline Trail aka: Rusty Red Bridge.

The parking there is small at the Pipeline Trail so I was thinking if people meet at LMS we could carpool as many people to the event as possible.
