Super stoked to see all the footage of the chehalis from Tom's last adventure. Man they sure do get after it with that hand truck and raft!

This is one of those runs that I always wished was road accessible so you could explore it easier. None the less finally some photos and beta out of this so overlooked and passed by river/run.!!!

Thanks for sharing Tom!

wow thats impresive that you guys hiked a raft in there !   how long was the hike in ?  isnt it like 10+ miles up to the confulence of EF and WF?   i havent been up that far since it all blew out ... i just wrote it off as another casualty of Weyerhaeuser clear cutting a whole river system ... they should open it up as a land slide theme park at least  hahaha

i used to do that run at high water  from time to time years ago when the road was there  before the big flood...... there are some nice drops and alot of class 2 and 3.... i do have a soft spot for this river because about 19 years ago i had  my first rain on snow river day there , the hills had snow and it was raining like crazy , it went up about 2 feet in the time it took us to unload the boats, we put on anyways and both swam and ended up hiken out haha.... by the time we got back to the van all the snow on the hills was gone and the river was HUGE

the last time i ran it was from the old covered bridge ( gone now )  down to Pe Ell right after the big flood ... man it was crazy to see that canyon scrubed clean by the flood ... they also had a excavator in the river messing around for road repair, and they made a SWEET wave with great eddy service  by accsident for a few weeks ... the wave is gone now, they moved things around... how is it that Weyerhaeuser can do what ever they want to a river (make play waves by mistake)  in the name of logging and we cant get one built for kayakers ??

oh i also saw my first red neck couch burning party up there ... nothing like a bunch of red necks, cheap beer , shotgun shells and a couch on fire !!... they told us they would stop shooting into the canyon if they saw us floating by ....thats Pe Ell for ya haha

hahahaha! Oh, Pe Ell...

I can't say I recommend the burgers at the local bar, but if you want live entertainment, then it's a pretty good place to go.

http://youtu.be/8yUyFMrplL8 - Here's a clip I put together from the trip .

The good bit is at about 2:30.

Well... it would have been a 10-mile hike to the put-in, but we missed a turn right off the bat and hiked about a mile and a half up a side creek and back down.
There was a pretty cool waterfall up there, though.
Let me find some more pictures...

Great video!!! I would love to get back in there...

If you go to the AW page for this run you can see some old videos of Aaron and I running Cape Horn. The video of Aaron ends just before he had a fantastic flip!

During that same trip we ran Yellowjacket and we got spanked again. There are some videos from that on AW as well.

i wish I still had those videos. Back then AW was the only place I knew to post such things.

Thanks James.

Here are some pictures from the side creek, which I intentionally omitted from the gallery.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5ztYds8tbzQ/T3SByCMeUFI/AAAAAAAABZw/PIHqj7jCs9o/s640/P1090865.JPG - Up, up, and a(wrong)way!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fpUzSDmNVZs/T3SByNeW03I/AAAAAAAABZ8/tR4UIFu5Uwc/s576/P1090873.JPG - A modified waterfall on the side creek. Nearly impassible for ol' Dolly, and we decided to turn around whether this was the right way or not. (It wasn't; we missed a turn where the old road is washed out).

Unfortunately, the camera was jostled early on in that hole-ride (about 40s in), but we were in there for 143 very intense seconds, according to the time stamp on the uncut video.

Also, I acknowledge that my failure to take a boof stroke may have played a part in our sudden loss of forward momentum and the abrupt spin, but it sure made for some good video.
Check out how full of water the raft is...
and then check out how our shoddy rigging began to fail...
Thankfully, the Lady of the Chehalis didn´t take anything except a paddle, which was recovered downstream. The missing shoes, which I´ve long been meaning to replace because they suck, were wedged in the bottom of the boat.

Looks like you guys had a bit more water. The Doty gauge was about 1500 when we were in there.
