Hey  I just got up here a couple days ago happly to see lots of boaters at the Cheak takeout.
so hears what  I know forsure
Cheak , PP guage is reading right on.  2.7 is a great Med flow  road to put in is a little better then last year. river wide log  after Cobra near star of run  walk on left
Callahan , is on the low side but still way good  and not riseing with heat so it may fall to low low soon. no bad wood on run
Soo, way great Mediumish level(locals may call it low)  careful with hidden wood on  normal line near end of run. its on river right just after LL .

hears what Ive heard through rumer mill
Burk is at Med level   log jam at end of run still there
Ashlu :  Mine and Tat are still high.  with dam now diverting water  Mini mine is low low
and Comm. Canyon is Med low. these levels are just what ive heard this info may not be right on the spot.

call me if if you got some of these runs in mind I'll be hear awhile

Word on the Birk: Birkenhead will be getting low - last weekend it was medium, but there was a heatwave for the few days before we did it. (not me)
Hopefully we can get over the new 4x4 section for Tatlow!

I've heard through the devils club that the road up the Ashlu to the Tatlow is much worse than it's been in years past.

We made it to the culvert on Saturday...to quote Ali "You'd need a Sherman tank to get past it!". There's one tricky move 2-3 miles from the culvert.
We had low-low side of good, maybe it bumped a bit from the rain sat night...but if you're looking to get this I'd get up there quick.

Leif mentioned to me that he has some extra room in his MASSIVE man truck for hitchhikers heading north to the Canadian swift water. He said to call him if you wanted a ride.

first off thanks to Texas Anthany(lakota 509) for coming up north and  hooking up with me up here.
we have done the Elaho Fear canyon twice now . Im finally putting the cms # to a personal level meter level. Thanks James for putting Elaho on the list.
putting in below massave center river boulder
first time was 60 cms this was a nice friendly  low level ,  low end class 4
2nd time was 80cms   personally I call this" going to medium "  solid class 4 to 4+
some may  dissagree with this , this is just my take,  Ive heard of this river being run at 200cms.  Ben (fiddleyak) maybe can tell about what thats like. Also congrats to Ben. I just ran into Cody Howard he told me him, Ben and crew just got off the Stikine.

All psyched for the Ashlu release scheduled for yesterday...but no one else showed up.  Respecting our lack of experience with this section, D1 and I decided not to commit to commitment canyon.

He talks me into doing the mine section as consolation.  I got hurt on this section last year and walked out.  So, I never did make either version of the portage of the sticky hole midway down.  D1 led the way to this spot since he recognizes it, deciding to do the rock-climb-funky-right-eddy portage.  What a crazy portage--can't imagine who first "discovered" that one.

Gotta give D1 credit, he was quick and efficient at getting it done.  I only had to wait standing in the eddy maybe 30 minutes without the drysuit I left at home.  By the time I got on land again I was shivering my ass off.  Never been so cold in the water before.  Made for a comical slow portage, like some mountain climber at high altitude.  I won't be doing this run again 4sure.

PS-today bumped into some guys getting back from the stikine who must have just arrived at commitment after we left (say 1pm).  Still think it's weird so few kaykers for something you gotta request a release for, something fought over...

We were there at around noon on Saturday - too bad we missed you.

Almost every release day where there hasn't been too much water the releases have been taken advantage of - it is getting plenty of use.  The local lads go up frequently, but will be up and back in 2 hours so you gotta be around when they show up.  The wide flow window (all day) makes it hard to guess when people will show up.

did lower Cheak today (balls to the wall)  at 2.5 level.   luckally went with someone who knows run well.   this is a good level .  I plug the crap out of the balls waterfall and still managed to do the runout ok. this was after watching everybody else style it. after the falls is a manditory portage eddie for the big log jam. after long portage rest of run is good with 2 log ducks.

Thanks for the opportunity to learn something from your grandstanding.

I took for granted paddlers would be there 1030-1210 when D1 and I moved on.  I did not post to PP.  There is as of yet no BC-based whitewater forum.

Staying in BC all this week following the release, I have bumped into another crew which also ran it after we moved on.  We paddled with them today.  So at least two crews got on it.  Still this seems a low count for a run fought over, but hey, there are so many other outdoor things to do up here.

Grandstanding?  I was just trying to be helpful buddy.

FVWW (like Justin says) is based in Abbotsford, and www.vankayak.org is based out of the city, but caters more to the beginner/intermediate crowd.  There's also this recently revived group based out of Squamish - http://www.squamishpaddlingclub.com/

There are forums for eastern BC/Alberta and northern BC at www.kayakwest.com and www.calpaddle.com

About the Ashlu, I'm just relaying how it is.  Getting people to paddle at dam releases seems to be a chronic problem - there's lots of chatter on this board about low numbers at the Chelan for example.

One of the biggest issues with the Ashlu is signing up and not showing up or not paddling the release - it is perhaps the strongest argument for the power company to reduce the number of releases when the contract is up for renegotiation in the next few years.

There was only one crew on the box on saturday that I know of - I was with the guys you boated with today.
