Where is the RR take out? We took out on river left and climbed those stairs...i don't think we were supposed to huck ourselves and boats over a fence next to a lodge with dogs barking and people inside...sketch

river right side of bridge. downstream side of road. chain link fence gate with pad lock. combo ####. as long as we are good stewards we should be able to continue using that access.

Oh and just to add, a guy does yard work over there for the owner and frequently picks up trash, weeds, plants trees etc... Be really kind to him, he is a really nice guy but does not like people littering or mis-using his bosses property.

 oops!

Yup R.Right take out is iimmediately beside the awesome playspot known as "Paradise" (There's an island of rock in the center of the rio, with a sweet 'lil foampile in the right channel) downstream of the flatwater canyon below the Franklin bridge.

The caretaker is a cool dude- Prolly a good idea just to say hi, talk to him, and be a good diplomat for the kayaking community.

Ok, I'm still a little unclear. We obviously didn't go far enough down stream. How far past the bridge on the right is the take out?

The takeout is right before the bridge on your right hand side. It is a big open field with a gate. you cant miss it.

if you are on the side of the bridge where the Meth lab trailer park is then you are on the wrong side.

They may think you have a mighty pretty mouth if you go in there. Do you squeal like a pig???

hahaha! Deliverance...That's why we got the ef out of there!

I'm not that clear either.

BA, It appears we didn't paddle down far enough. We stayed upstream of the playhole and those big boulders as described. Sounds like the take out is downstream around the corner from where we thought was the take out. And it sounds like there is another gate with pad lock. Not the pad lock we saw....And I still remember that license plate number...haha

There must be another bridge somewhere... I didn't see any field that is for sure and there was no way there was a take out above the bridge we where at.

Ok there is confusion here.

Dave is saying the field is before the bridge when you are driving to the takeout.

Your thinking of where the takeout is when you are heading downriver in boats.

IN Boats: You go under the bridge, around the corner past the waterfall and little walk ways, through a super tight canyon with mossy walls (no rapids) and then you will see a sandstone slab on the river right that you take out at. There is usally a rope tied into the wall and you will know your there because there is a super sick play spot right at this location. Try using the map feature...River Mapplet

Of course if you're lazy like me, you just paddle the next 6 miles down to Flaming Geyser Park.

I got an email post from baboso98125 on Seattle Kayaker saying that Flaming Geyser will be closed for the next two years. Quoted below:

This news caught me by surprised by the length of the closure - TWO YEARS!

It looks like the State Park will allow parking at the "airfield," but it'll be crowded and I expect that there will be a lot of tension between park users forced to share a limited space.

I don't know if there's any river access at the "airfield" area. If not, and you do the lower Green, I guess you'll have to run and use the Yo-Yo section take-out. Can anyone else think of an optional take-out for the lower Green section?

Flaming Geyser State Park to be closed for two years for repairs

Monday, January 11, 2010
Last updated 9:30 a.m. PT

By COVINGTON REPORTER

The Washington State Parks Commission announced of Flaming Geyser State Park near Black Diamond will be closed to vehicular traffic in most of the park due to electrical failure and public safety concerns stemming from a worn out and outdated system.

According to a press release from the commission, the park will undergo significant construction and upgrades on electrical, water, sewer, roads, parking and buildings as soon as environmental permits are obtained. Repairs are expected to take at least two years to complete.

The park has experienced numerous electrical power problems over the past several months, followed by attempts at smaller repairs to keep the park open. Recently, an inventory showed that a greater repair is needed for public safety reasons. Plans had already been under way, and the Legislature had included $3.47 million in the 2009-11 capital budget for state parks to upgrade the park and create a reliable infrastructure.

Managers determined that with the recent power failures, public safety could be assured only by closing the park to traffic and taking care of all the repairs and improvements at once. Parking and sanitary facilities are available at the airfield parking lot.

Flaming Geyser State Park lies within the 2,000-acre Green River Gorge Conservation Area in King County, 2.5 miles south of Black Diamond off state route 169. The area, which also includes Nolte and Kanaskat-Palmer state parks, historically was mined for coal, clay and cinnabar. Flaming Geyser was named from the seepage of methane gas from an old test core bored into underlying coal seams.

The seepage once produced a significant flame but now only burns about six inches high. The park is enjoyed for picnicking, hiking, biking, volleyball, horseshoes, fishing, river floating and kayaking, horseback riding and other activities. A field at Flaming Geyser is set aside for radio-controlled model aircraft flying.

If you don’t mind the hike, and I have no idea of the legality of this, but you can take out on RR right above the last rapid before the waterfall. This will put you in that little cemetery that you see on the left side of the road as you drive to the takeout.

If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there.

I don't think the Upper Gorge takeout is an issue, the paradise takeout is fine still, its just the flaming geyser take out. Not so much of an issue for Kayakers since we can always bust the bush at the last bridge, but rafters might have a wee bit of an issue since it takes a bit more room for takeout and breakdown.

You can just float down past Flaming Guyser to the bridge that crosses the river (main road) and there is a boat launch takeout there. Simple and easy, just a few more miles of river, thats all.

We ran this on Sat.  There is a very nice takeout at the airfield parking lot.  The walk is even shorter to your car than the regular takeout.  It was extremely busy at that parking lot though with not many parking spaces.
