Topic: Comando Run Posted: 15 Sep 2009 at 3:28pm |
It's official, Jason poached a comando run down the Tieton last weekend!
P.S. I saw some lady go comando over Husum a few weeks ago (I hear she lost a bet)!

It is way less of a big deal for a guy to paddle commando than it is for a gal.
Well unless your talking about in an IK or Raft... That would be different. I am surprised that there is no footage of that husum run... Your slackin Weide!!!!

Don't feel bad, it has nothing to do with kayaking or paddling. See the official definition of going commando

I think I'm still missing something here; I've heard/used commando to mean sans underwear, but I don't think it is noteworthy enough that someone paddled the Tieton running free, in any kind of boat, to start a thread on it.
On the other hand, a thread about how short is too short for your swim trunks may well be in order.

It just so happens that I was there that day running livestock over Hussum while she was evidently on the bank with her group. This I know because a photographer happened to capture the scintillating Kodak moment, and I have seen said photo. In it she is standing around the outside of a circle of her companions. we were wondering what circumstances would cause her to be out "scoutin commando". Yes it is theoretically possible for me to procure this photo and plaster it all over the web. While her (bare) backside was turned to the camera and her face would be protected, as a matter of ethics I would never do this. I was delighted to see the photo of this Mysterious Commando Girl, and her identity (what i know of it) is safe with me. Due to other revealing details (style and color of gear) I believe I may have met and even paddled with this person. I guess I find it refreshing that people are willing to occasionally break out of our rigidly programmed mores. Mysterious Commando Girl, I salute you! -jP

once when I was down in Costa Rica, a certain paddler with me kinda "went commando"- I can't remember the details, but I think he forgot his river shorts. He had these standup shorts he wanted to keep dry, so he paddled the Reventazon with us in his tightie whities. Of course we weren't bothered by it, and forgot all about it, till we got out to scout "Jungle Run". It was pretty funny. But not as funny as walking into the tiny villa of Peralta at the Take out. Fruit of the loom gets pretty transparent when it's wet (not that I was looking!), and he got some looks from the locals for sure. Given the choice, I'll go with the Hussum sighting!

I was there too, but somehow I missed this action. Another unnamed camera man who had an opportunity to document this event thought that it would be inappropriate to take pictures without asking for permission. This situation brings up two important points: 1. It's always better to ask for forgiveness than permission, and 2.

So, in some unrelated reading on Scottish kilts, I saw that there exists a term "to go regimental" which is derived from the < true Scotsmen> not wearing anything under their kilts. I think it is safe to say that "going commando" must come from this.

I recently started wondering if going commando in the summer might be more comfy in my squirt boat.... I could use all the space I can get in there!!!

I would have to add - "Summer" into Regimental Commando Squirting. I just don't think I could bring myself to try during the winter months. That .. and this is not some club I want to start, I think I might prefer to just keep this one to myself. Last thing I want is to be sinkin in some eddy with a bunch of other bare seated doods!

Beware of getting fiberglass dusticles on your nusticles.
I'd be scared of chafing.
I suppose you could grease them up first, but that's a personal decision.

Why does Weide's original post not suprise me??? hahaha!
And yes, dblanchard is correct in the use of the term "regimental". Having spent some time in a bagpipe band and also owning a Utilikilt, I can attest that it is the only proper way to wear one! However they do not come without risk!
I learned my lesson on the Payette this year - don't wear a kilt and Tevas to collect firewood on a steep hillside after drinking copious amounts of alcohol! My left a$$ cheek stil has the scars....

This is something I had not considered. I have a pretty new boat and I already got a nice fiberglass sliver in my toe. The Last thing I need is a sliver in my hoo haa or worse yet my jimblies... But then again my hydro skin socks did not keep that sliver out so I doubt the speedo I wear right now would do much more. I'lll take skin to win for $500
