This is the Squammish Weekend discussion thread. Please post any questions below.

Remember the actual Trip Details are located on the Squammish Weekend | Trip Page

We shall invade Canada for purposes of kayaking and revelry. Details will come later as water levels make themselves known. There are enough options in the Squamish that several groups can go out to hit class II, V or anything in between.

I just got Friday the 7th off work too, so if anyone wants to head up Thursday afternoon, I'd be game.

Hey Crew,

Next weekend approaches. We still have some time to look at what the rivers are doing. We'll have a class III trip every day, but there's enough daylight for double runs if we're disciplined. Any suggestions. I'd like another crack at the Ashlu :)

It would be great to get some climbing in too, but let's not be greedy.

Right now it looks like Liz and I are headed up Thursday night or Friday morning. Can any else flee town that early?

Brian,

I will be heading up Friday evening and will be carpooling with a climber friend and fluffy dogs.  Keep me posted on runs since I'm totally unfamiliar with whats up there. Let's work out a place to meet up etc.

Creek boat / Playboat...???   Would I be needing one or the other... or both?

Ok, it's Liz and I going up Thursday. I'll meet the rest of you in Squamish on Friday. There's cell access there, so we can play things by ear.

I'll be looking at the guidebook over the next couple of days to see what's running. I'm aiming for a class III trip each day, but there is enough daylight for double runs, and a large enough group to split up if necessary.

Dan,

I can't speak to the rivers since this is new territory for me too, but Leif and Jeff and maybe Kirk are going up Friday after work so a carpool should still work for ya.

Looks like possible rain for the weekend up in BC too, but highs in the mid 70s.  :D

Tiziak here is plenty of creeking up there.  The play isn't all that great in my opinion.

There is class III, the Ashlu play run (III)  is pretty creeky feeling if you ask me.  And the Elaho playrun (II/III) is in my opinion a nice float, but doesn't have much play on it.  Whereas the Tatlo creek, minimine, box canyon, commitment canyon, mine etc.  Are harder and more creeky.

What are they? IV, V, V+? Is there going to be a group ready for hucking?

Just a thought after paddling in BC a few times.   Expect things to be 1/2 grade harder than listed.  Not all the rivers fit into this description but it is better to underwhelmed that overwhelmed.

It looks like the horde will have to meet up Friday and Saturday nights. Let's plan on meeting in Squamish with times to be determined later.

I'll take a look at levels on Thursday and throw out some suggestions for runs.

OK, here's what I'm thinking about in terms of itinerary. We'll have a wide range of abilities - beginner to class V. So, we'll have to be flexible.

Class IV Options
- Ashlu - mini mine
- Cheakamus

Class III Options
- Ashlu play run
- Cal-Cheak

Class II
- Green River north of Whistler.

There will also be climbing, and revelry.

Late in getting online.  Honestly working. Take note world.

Down for badass creeking if there are folks for it.  I am not bringing a playboat.  I am bringing climbing gear.  Top roping worst case with good weather.

Squamish is a good base for many things.  The hiking and climbing are awesome.  Every river or creek is cold, but you folks are used to that.

Would caravan friday morning.  Could drive carpool if someone will let me leave a few bags at their house.  Been living out of the subaru.

The Birkenhead also has a class III stretch, but it might be too low.

Anthony,

You can stash some stuff at my place in Redmond if you're willing to drive. How many boats can you fit?

Suggest the visitor centre as the meeting spot.  Note Brit English.

Pluses:
free wifi
coffee/bake shop
info and maps
other outdoorsy visitors
gobs of space in the car park

Negatives:
does not serve alcohol
