Topic: First Descents Kayak Raffle Posted: 03 Jan 2009 at 10:08pm |
First Descents is a great cause that touches so many in need. I wish I had a poetic tongue that could inspire everyone to contribute, unfortunately I do not. What I can do is promise that 100% of every penny raised will go directly to First Descents!
Sometimes the cause speaks for itself!
Go to the First Descents web site to see what they are all about.
Spend a little time roaming around, make sure you check out the smiles!
Here is an amazing story that will help put things in perspective!

True Dat!!
I am a little confused though, I paid my $$ and got a confirmation receipt from Pay-Pal, but I didn't see anything about a ticket #. Is my confirmation # from paypal the number I need to save? Not that it really matters, because the money is going to a good cause regardless of the raffle prize (even if they are SWEET!)

Probably through the paypal or credit card name I would assume.
I'm feeling lucky on this one.

Sorry for the confusion - here is how it works.
Paypal generates a list of everyone that has purchased a ticket, when the raffle is over I will copy hte list into a excel spread sheet James made (thanks) that will randomly select 1st - 3rd place with no possibility of repitition. Contact information is stored by Paypal.
Your confirmation receipt from paypal is your proof that you purchased a ticket, with an individual # that is also on hte paypal record.
Clear as mud?
Many Thanks guys!

More Prizes are being added!
I will be adding a Wave Dog paddle to the raffle, so now there will be 4 places that will win prizes.
I have a feeling that more will be coming as time goes on.
3 weeks until the drawing!

I have had a few requests to show the totals raised so far.
I don't have the know how to build a ticker that updates in real time, so I will just post here every day.
TOTALS thru 1/13/2009 - 11:00 am - 48 tickets sold = $1200
Good Job & Thanks - Let's keep it going!

Have you posted this raffle on pdx kayaker as well? I'm assuming you want to keep this somewhat local and all, but that would probably help sell some tickets.

If anyone has any other sites that I haven't hit, please let me know.
I have had a few people purchase tickets in Europe, I can't ship the kayak there but I'll send any of hte other items there.
Spread the word, the more the merrier!

"Whoa Nellie !! Michael,
I just filled out a check, and the Raffle Application, and was ready to
mail it when it dawned on me that this says that enteries must be
received by "January 28th, 2008" and that the drawing will be held
"January 30th, 2008" etc..... I don't mind donating money to First
Descents, but is this a Typo and it is meant to say January 28th, 2009
and the drawing is January 30th, 2009 ? Or was this a last year thang
?? Please let me know here, ASAP. The Ad. that you first click on says
the drawing will be held on January 30th, 2009, it is just the form
that you submit with the check that had the 2008 dates ! Please advise,
Freddie Carter
Well, every other place I look (except for the form that you
include with a check) cites the Jan 2009 dates ! So, I'll mail mine in
today. FC" Tobin, you think you could post here and just clarify for them? Thanks, Gordon http://missouriwhitewater.org/uieforum?c=showthread&ThreadID=1347&page=1#lastpost

My Bad, I will correct it ASAP!
The mailed entried have to be received by January 28th, 2009
Drawing on the 30th.
The reason for the difference is that the mailed entries have to be entered by hand prior to the drawing.
OH and A Big Huge Thanks to You Gordon!
