I am headed to Stevens Sunday for my inaugural run of the season.  Based on forcasts, there should be 6-12" of fresh on Saturday, though anything can happen between now and then.

Anyone want to ride up there in King Chili?  I've got lots of room...

STEVENS SUCKS! They have revoked free birthdays! Yesterday was my last trip to that shitty mountain! I know everyone will start comparing which mountain they like best, some will say Stevens is great. Save your breath, that mountain is dead to me.

Total Bullshit...... No Birthday Pass!
Its disappointing to see Stevens going this direction. But Im too lazy to always earn my turns so I will still ride there. Plus it's one of the only mountains that you can pull double downs on a regular basis throughout the winter.

The mountain was probably concerned about gett sued by people with June birthdays.

Getting back on point - let me know if you actually want to carpool up to the mountain on Sat.

You drove all the way up there to ride rain crust?  Even for a free pass, that aint worth it.  After 50+ inches at Alpy this coming week, Steven's will be the last thought on your mind!

Oh waaa!

Lemme see if I got this straight.  You're upset because someone isn't giving you a freebie because it's your birthday.  Is that right?

Yeeeaaaahhhhh...ok.

Come to think of it, I didn't get anything for your birthday either!  Bastards!

I skied stevens for the first time ever yesterday and eventhough it was pretty much just groomer skiing the place looks like it has some good terrain.  I am looking at my Alpental/Snoqualmie pass collecting dust on my desk so I can't say much about that place.  If Stevens gets snow I will go Sunday.  Depends on snow.

Jojo.   Here's about all you need to know about Snoqualmie.  Alpental has fun and steep inbound terrain, but it's limited.  The lines can suck at chair 2 at times though. The best part of that place is going out the gates to the side country stuff.  Lots of lines....exposed steeps, gullies, chutes, cliffs, roll overs, etc.  It can be dangerous so a guide is pretty much mandatory along with beacon, shovel, probe.

Hyak is just open on weekends so it's a great place to hit if it dumped during the week.  Shorts laps, but fun terrain.

There's a few decent runs at the rest of the Snoqualmie areas, but overall it can be avoided unless you're a park rat and want to hit the pipe and rails.

Thanks for the info.  I am always up for touring so that's exciting.  What's Hyak?

Hyak is the the eastern most of the Snoqualmie area, the one with the big Oly can.

Not really touring off the gates at Alpental, just a big traverse to get you out there.

What he didn't tell you is there are ONLY two chairs.

Stevens is better.

So, I've actually never been to Alpental, but it has always seemed to me that it is a rather small offering.  I do hear there is good backcountry, so if someone wants to show it to me sometime...that might actually get me to go there.

I've only ridden at Steven's once, but got a general sense of the area. It's great for ripping fast cruisers and powder days.

I think preference between the places depends on what you are looking for.  Going out the gates at Alpental allows you easy access to some pretty hairball terrain.  Definitely a better sense of adventure can be found there.  I've only seen a quarter of all the lines and am looking forward to lot's of new ones this season.

These photos give you a general sense.
