Just passing this along for anyone/everyone thinking about heading south.  From the fine folks blogging at CRG Video & Photo:

This just in from River Ranger, Brandon Backman.
There is a new, huge old growth log in the middle of Lower Zig-Zag Rapid on the Green Truss section of the White Salmon River. It sounds like a pretty sketchy line to make it through and a portage around this is near impossible. Approach zig-zag and the Truss, for now, with extreme caution! This is a popular run for the locals, but Do Not drop into Lower Zig Zag blind right now!

That sucks!     I haven't been on the Truss in a couple years and it is such a superb run. Let's hope that flushes out in fall floods.

I know for a fact zig zag canyon has been portaged.  At the very least, from above UZZ on river right.

Does anyone know more about the portage route, or possible portage route for LZZ?  If the log is above splat rock, one could just hop out for the entry move/log and run the rest of the drop ...

love to get more beta as I'm hoping to get down for soem truss laps in a few weeks.

Haha,

Yeah, you could probably just pull that sucker out.  Its two pieces, one blocking the left passage next to the fan rock and the other is accross the sieve on the right.  Its an old growth, maybe 40-50,000 lbs per piece...  Get a crane in there and then we'll talk...

Portage is on river left, from the eddy over the cliff to the cave.  There should be a rope fixed in there for lowering boats.  Its really a bummer because that was one of the things that made that run really worth doing.  Now with lower water and the portage, its looking like low water Little White instead...

Hey Jonathon, a couple friends of mine were out on the Truss on Saturday.  Did you run into them at all?  I was wondering how they did with the wood...
