                                       Save the Sky shuttle Fund

Everyone knows Rob Mckibbin, and if you don't he is one of the greatest guys you'll ever meet! Well, last Wednesday, Dec 14, 2005, some dirty dog stole Rob's car from the takeout while he was paddling. Everything Rob had of value was in his car. For those who don't know Rob he paddles almost every day of the year. Paddling is his sole passion. He's always shuttling someone to the put in, the take out, where ever they need to get to. He'll give you all he has. He's just that type of guy. Rob is very much into a low impact lifestyle if you know what I mean. He prefers to get along with as little as possible.

This is how the Save the Sky shuttle Fund was born. Rob's car wasn't much at all, but for him it is a lifeline. He lives in the foothills of the Skykomish which means life is difficult at best without wheels. Save the Sky shuttle Fund is a grassroots deal where all of the proceeds go directly to a new Sky shuttle vehicle for Rob. ALL!

Kayakers are good people who help each other out. And if there was ever a time you met someone on some trip and really wanted to give back to the world- through them, this is the time and would be a great way to earn some cosmic brownie points and help out a great person. Help Rob! Help the Sky valley. Because you never know who might pick YOU up when you need a ride!

Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.

Collection plates will be showing up at local paddle shops. The biggest thing is not to TELL Rob! He doesn't have internet and I want this to be a surprise. Please. Any help is going to a good cause and is appreciated by everyone. I promise. Anything further, feel free to give me a call. Thank you.

Rob is one of the most selfless, helpful, and generous guys on the
water... He always lends a hand to less skilled paddlers (which is all of
us, pretty much), and is always game for "just one more run," for the
second or third time. He is a blast to boat with, and quite a character.

Rob is that boater we all wish we could be and lives a lifestyle that puts
him on the water 300+ days a year. There is no boater out there that
deserved to have his car stolen less. He also had his Kingpin stolen off
the top of his car last year. Lets get this together for Rob. Please support
the fund if you can.

I leave you with a haiku:

A man made to boat,
His weak car carried us far,
It is gone, please help.

I was wondering why he wasn't answering his cell...  Digging deep for a silver lining at least he still has Kingpin, paddle, and associated gear.  I'm guessing his creeking paddle and throwbag were in the car, any idea what other specific gear items he might have lost?

Anyone feeling moved to donate gear or money can bring it by the shop and it will get to Brett or Rob.

Looking further down the road, does anyone have a line on a vehicle in decent condition that might work for the man?

Jeff

I'd prefer you give everything to me as I want this thing to remain a surprise. Cash is the best I think because 6 PFD's don't buy a car. Cash would be a better solution for Rob also because he is aware of deals we are not I'm sure. He also knows folks we do not also. Anything helps, but cash is best. Thanks everybody.

Sounds good.  Brett... can you hit me up off forum when you get the chance?  Got an idea for you and I don't think I have your email.

What was the plate number and vehicle description for his car? Is it registered to him?

I spend a lot of time in the unlicensed "junk yards" up here in Skagit County. We get a lot of the stolen cars out of Sno Co up here. I'm not in a position to donate right now, but I can sure visit some people and see what turns up.

It's a mid to early eithies Nissan Maxima. It's beige, 2 door and not in the greatest shape.

While I will be collecting donation boxes by the 8th of January, you all are welcome to give to Rob after that if you happen to see him on the river. You are welcome to mail a check to me if it's a local one and I can get it to Rob. Call me if this is your preference. Whether it's cash, schwag, or love he'll enjoy and appreciate it, whatever it is. Donations have been great, I am happy to report. I've had such an overwhelming response, but I can't say I'm suprised. It is obvious what Rob means to you guys and what you all are made of when it comes to your friends. I thank you, I know Rob will thank you, and the universe looks favorably upon you. Happy Holidays everybody! This has definitely been a rewarding experience for me. Thanks.

Hey everybody,

Several folks have indicated they want to contribute a little later in the month. So, The boxes will stay out until the first part of February. Thanks again everyone. Your good will is appreciated!

Yes, I may be able to contribute later on in January after my finances recover from the end of 2005. A worthy cause indeed.

I have an idea. How about we all just get together some time and pool up what we can toss in. I can post something on Craigslist and I am sure we can get a car.

A worthy cause indeed - I recently lost a boat out the back of my truck, so, while that is my own dumb fault I understand the loss. My loving girlfriend talked to freinds and family and started a kayak fund, so I could get a new creeker and get back to an activity that is much more a way of life than a sport. She understood what it means to me, as we all understand what this means to Rob, and though I have never met him, I look forward to adding whatever I can to the donations (either I'll see one of you on the river, or you'll tell me where to mail the check). I look forward even more to meeting this guru you call Rob. Maybe one of us will get the chance to shuttle him while we solve the vehicle problem.

Gavin,

Donation boxes will be out until February at Seattle Raft and Kayak, Outdoor Adventure Center, and Aquasports. If you'd like to mail me one that is fine as well, but call as I don't want the entire world knowing my address. My number is in this thread.
