Had two great laps in Thunder this weekend with Rubado and Niko. This thing has changed a bit from the online beta I found. The run is pretty clear of wood and was a blast. Get in there while the getting is good!

After reading the beta on PP I have to say that the cave behind Trials is real, and MASSIVE. Ha! Is the highest it's been run really 550cfs?

Who knows the name of the 3 tiered waterfall above the slides?

Cheers

If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there.

Questions/Requests.

1. Did you run the slides at the top? Regardless were they still choked full of wood?
2. Tell me more about that Cave ...
3. Please kindly post your digital media for us Couch Kayakers.
4. Did you make it up to the Massive Falls well above the slides at the top? You would know them if you saw them.

Yea that's the one, it has actually been run at flows between 400 and 650 now, I don't know about the latest trip from Dan though since it looks like it was quite a bit higher. At everything over 700 I have had no problem walking around that thing without a second thought.

1.) Negative ghostryder. But a lot of thought was given to one of the options. I will put up some clips. Trials looked manageable if there had been a pool below each of the drops, but with that final ledge sequence... I just don't know how you would stay in control. Plus, there is wood spanning the entire run-out pool. The slide had wood in the right channel that looked unavoidable for everyone except Rob. The left and middle slots were clear, but there was some nasty, river-wide wood directly below it.

2.) We didn't run the falls either. But we spent a lot of time looking at it and portaged on RL. There was definitely daylight behind that veil. I wouldn't want to be back there as it look to be continuously feeding towards a RR pocket or something.

3.) Will do.

4.) I did. We didn't know where to hike in so we actually carried our boats a little bit below the falls and hiked down to them, thinking they were the slides. Have they been run? They were impressive to say the least. Where are you supposed to hike down to the river? We couldn't find any defined paths or trails. Is there some kind of landmark?

No landmark, generally I have a spot in the trail where I hear the slides and just start whacking down to the river. If you want to put in just above them that is where the trail opens up and has that slope leading down to the river.

Pretty cool little run huh! The hike is no biggie especially if you do it two days in a row and just leave your boat and gear at the 2 mile mark.
