Awesome tool from EPA that shows rivers and their names (as well as a ton of other stuff). Perfect for all you Google Earth addicts searching out the next piece of stoutness and now you'll even know the name. And great for just learning the area, tributaries of your favorite run, or the name of that trickle coming in on river right just past your favorite safety spot.

Here's the page: http://water.epa.gov/scitech/datait/tools/waters/tools/waters_kmz.cfm

If it stops working in Google Earth check the webpage because they update it every once in a while. Enjoy your exploring.

Rock on! Thanks for the link. I will definitely put that to good use.

On the same note, for those who don't know, American Whitewater has KML files with all the rivers in the state (at least those listed on the AW website), and they change color depending on what's running. They are located at the bottom of each state's rivers page...

http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/state-summary/state/WA/

Or here is the direct link to the file for WA:
http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/state-summary/state/WA/.kml

I find that I have to save it to my computer and rename it to something like "WA.kml" before Google Earth will open it, but it works well. It's great for seeing where runs are in relation to each other, and to get a quick idea of what's running. Having moved around quite a bit, I have found it very useful for getting oriented to a new area and figuring out which runs are close and which ones are far away. Big thanks to AW for making that resource available.

I had no idea AW had put that together, very cool. Must have been a hidden link I never saw, or I just default to PP these days.
