After three years of IK'ing I'm finally ready to step up to a hardshell. I bought a Jackson Superfun while back but the skirt has seen better days. What are your thoughts on bungee skirts? I know they're easier to get on and off but tend to let more water in. Am I better off buying a rand skirt now, even though I don't plan on running anything big enough to require one anytime soon? Any suggestions on brands?

Also, my drysuit doesn't have a tunnel and I would rather not shell out $600 for new one. Is that going to be a minor inconvenience or will I be sitting in a boat full of water every time I find myself bottom side up? I do have a wetsuit and splash gear but would rather not go back it.

Thanks

Bungee skirts with implosion bars are the way to go in my book. People tend to prefer rands for big waterfalls I personally don't trust rands for big waters. So it all depends on what direction you want to go in Kayaking. Snap Dragon makes great spary skirts and if you ever need a repair there right in Bellevue.

You might get a bit more water in your boat without the tunnel.   But if you are new to kayaking I don't think you 'll notice it too much.   The
Jackson boats are really dry on their own so that's a plus

I'm also partial to the Snapdragon skirts!

I prefer the bungee even if it is wetter, to me being able to get my skirt on quickly is more important than a few cups of water in my boat after a lap on the sky. You never know when your going to be out of your boat when something happens and you need to get in your boat, skirt up and chase down a yard sale. Also easier to put on with cold hands.

Like the wise B-Real of Cypress Hill once said: "When the sh*t goes down, you better be ready. YOU BETTER BE READY!"
The line will become apparent
