Topic: Crazy Kiwi Visiting 7/21-22 : Paddling? Posted: 17 Jul 2012 at 2:31pm |
Hiya Folks, I'm from the South Pacific Paddling oasis of New Zealand. Been boating for quite a while (my first boat was a Dancer...) I visit Seattle regularly for work and have finaly decided to get off my arse and try and get some boating in over there. I'm comfortable in Class IV-V white water and have paddled in some interesting places includng Africa, Australia, Idaho, Montana and of course lil old New Zealand. But, despite having been to Seattle probably 30 times I've never paddled in the area. Anyone able to take me boating this weekend? Guessing I can rent some gear from Aquabound? Naturally I'm happy to reciprocate and host any PNWers here in New Zealand. I live in Rotorua about 6 minutes drive from about the best play run in the country. Look forward to hearing you all. Cheers Chris

If you get to Leavenworth give me a call: 253 549 3945 - Darren
You could potentially do 3 Washington Classics in a day: Top Tye Icicle Creek Tumwater Canyon of the Wenatchee
....and even the Wenatchee play run if you really charge.
Bring your soft gear and I can hook you up with a paddle, skirt, PFD and Dagger Mamba 8.6 or CFS. Maybe a ride from Everett, WA (98201) to Leavenworth on Sunday morning too. You could take a train back to Seattle on Monday morning. Only $20-40.

Sounds like the hatch of a plan. Transport will be no issue; have a rental car; staying in Issaquah.
I'm on 425 518 4619 from Thursday evening.
I'll throw a dry-top and pants into my bag.
Will give you a yell Thursday or Friday.
Might even combine with some Stevens Bike Park time...

Hey Chris:
I stayed in Taupo for 6 months about 3 years ago and the folks in NZ were quite good to me, so I'd be happy to return the favor. I can't paddle this weekend, but I've got a Mystic* and a paddle you can use if you'd rather do that than rent.
Give me a ring or shoot me a text at two-oh-six-three-3-wun-3-ate-3-one-trez (trying to keep the cell spam-bot free - if the number isn't clear shoot me a PM)
*Mystic is patched but - the patch is a rec-patch on top of a marine epoxy weld on the outside backed up by a whaley-weld underneath a layer of bituthane on the inside so it's pretty bomber. Just tested it on a low-water trip down a ledgy steepish local run with mucho scraping and it held-up to that torture testing like a champ.

Sugest you do that first. then drive north to leavenworth and get on icicle, tumwater (big water) and Top tye on the way back to seattle. Will be loads of people boating fri sat sun on all these runs as they are at perfect flow. Call me on 206 747 8072. I can help organise gear for you. I have to be back in seattle by sun morning. I would actually like to hear of someone doing the top tye, a couple runs at the bike park, a run down tumwater and then icicle in a single day.
I don't doubt it can be done, but that would be epic to say the least.
I'll be over on the cooper this weekend again.

James, How about Robe, Tye, Tumwater and Icicle combo? Mountain biking is too much work. I guess there is a lift.
