I have no idea what kind of water it needs, but if its runnable this weekend is anyone interested in showing me down?

The level right now is totally runnable; the hardest part is finding the put-in (you can see most of the river from the road). If the sky keeps dropping, though, it might be too low.

Brian,

I would be up for running the Rapid on Saturday, though I haven't run it before either so I can't help in the leading department.

As a general rule you want the Rapid to be rapid. You want most of the rocks in the riverbed to be covered, with the surface tumbling over them to produce aerated, white, frothy stuff. If its green water and rocks, its too low. Generally 9k and up is what you want. If it spikes back up with this heat to at least 9k, I'd lead you guys down. I know it well enough, and typically run it at least once a year. Already ran it earlier this season. I'm not interested in banging and scraping down it though, so 9k is my low end cut off.

Its a class IV run. It should feel like one.

I'm in! My Oregon trip for this weekend isn't going to work out for me, so Rapid it is! And I'm SUPER stoked to have jP as our guide. I'll be doing the water dance too in hopes for 9,000 cfs on the Sky. The Bennett book says, "Best when Skykomish at Goldbar is 6,500-10,000."
Now we need to work out a time to do it. Sunday is the best day for me. I know Dirty (which is a killer PP name) is available on Saturday. I wouldn't be able to run it on Saturday, I've got work in the morning hours, then I'll be doing photographs for a wedding around 2pm. BrianP, when were you thinking about doing it?

Another thing, maybe we can make a big day out of it, and do a couple laps on the Rapid, possibly run the Foss and or the Sky afterwards. I'm up for getting a jump on the day and heading out early.
Dirty... is it possible for you to come out Sunday instead? Can you juggle some things around to make it out?

Here's a vid from the Rapid when the Sky gauge was at 7200 cfs.  It was my first time on the Rapid and a good level for first time.  Ran it again more recently at 9800 cfs but Nelson is working on putting together that vid.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aE5JEwJsazA&list=UUxk5wUDXPd1vfVsGx0JI0aA&index=2&feature=plcp

There is a log almost river wide after you go under the first bridge (labeled third bridge in the vid).  So, you'll take the drops under the bridge, then the river makes a sharp left down a rapid, and then you'll see a dark brown log perched on a rock in the middle of the river.  You can sneak by on both sides.....right seems to be easier.

Oscar - I ran the Foss on Tuesday.  Will send you the vid later tonight.  Flow was at 8400.

thorpetodd... wow dude! you couldn't make it any easier for us. way to look out. Thanks for the video. I'm looking forward to seeing the video when you ran it at higher water.
I'm hoping that the sky is in jP's more favorable level at around 9,000cfs. But if not, 7,200 looks like something we can handle.
I'm free all day Sunday and I'm willing to drive. The truck is a gas guzzler, but it's really convenient also and a great whitewater rig.

I can't make it myself, got other whitewater obligations downstream. Weekends are tough for me these days. Should be good though- Sky is already 9K and heading up.
