I was out there last saturday with my fiance - her first time in her new Aire Lynx (awesome!). Great day - scored a shuttle at the putin, despite being on the river all day only saw two other boats near the takeout, and had kickass mexican food in yakima after the run.
Its a good, easy run (nice description on the Rivers page). I'd never done it before and found it to be interesting and scenic, with warm water. The level was low, but that was perfect for what we were looking for. With higher flows, I could see this run being a real hoot.

Oh, you mentioned play ability. There were a few nice small waves for frontsurfing, mostly catch on the fly stuff.

There should be a great play wave under a bridge... located right in the middle of the run, just down stream from a small group of housed or store. This of course would be dependent on levels which I haven't been tracking... so if flows are going up it should be in.

Yup. And if I remember correctly, it is the ONLY park n play wave with eddy service. Other than that, the run is non stop with few eddies. The dam is runnable on far left in kayaks.

BTW, I ran it LAST September at 1600cfs. Looks like it's dropping quick so catch it fast. Anyways, we ran the dam at that level on the left, very straight forward steep slide; or an easy portage.

Actually, it should be coming up for the next two weeks, then dropping. I am planning on going over next weekend for Sat and Sun, the 17th and 18th.

The forcast is showing the pool elevation trend which is dropping of course. You need to look at the river level on the page and it will show a steady incline. The weekend I am going on should be the highest flows at around 2200-2500cfs.

Dont underestimate this river at higher flows, it will stomp down a beginer and devour rafts that are not ready for really fast flows. It is also a very difficult river to rescue swimmers and gear on.

I second that! Eddy's are few and far between and the river is constant- not typical pool drop. Swims can be long and the rocks are sharp basalt. Occasional re-bar in places (dam center and waffle wall to name two) Lots of branches down to the water level on the banks too. But the water is warm and it's pretty. Can't beat boating in September!

I want to run from up at the dam to the double bridges. Should be a good Saturday run. Not this weekend, but next weekend.

Any river that has, or has had, a Roman Festivus is now pronounced as Scenic. (Must be a festivus with giant loudspeakers in which the repeated chanting "Toga, Toga, Toga" may be heard from 2 miles away.)
I agree the Tieton is scenic by this definition.

No way! Wow Washington must have some pretty rivers. I've just been on the Duwamish, I should get out more.
Seriously though, its lame to call out someone's personal idea of what is scenic. I'm not saying the tieton is opal creek, but jeez. Blue/green water, cottonwoods and ponderosas, basalt formations, big east-side open canyon. Yeah that sucks

just ran tieton this last weekend at around 2000 cfs...its already up to 2150 now. lots of fun...moving real fast. not too many hazards just the usual rocks and strainers to avoid. play hole was pretty good but not super. lots of rafts though...look out for em. see yall there next weekend.
