Apart from Boater Talk, does anybody have some good boating contacts in the D.C. area? I'm heading out there for two months on Oct 18, drooling over that Great Falls section..

Adrian,

Every year for several years I have headed out there for business and always hooked up with different folks to paddle either great falls or other local runs (Holtwood etc...) check out these sites.

http://www.monocacycanoe.org/

http://www.baltimorecanoeclub.org/smf/index.php  (look for Jay Herbig)

I remember one year when it was dumping snow I borrowed Jay's boat and paddle and did a little winter mission then dropped his gear back off the next day at a paddling meeting in a local school where a custom paddle maker was showing off his goods.

Hope that helps. Oh and be sure you check in with the Ranger Station on the MD side because I know they like paddlers to sign up and let them know when you going to make your run through the falls. If you don't they might be waiting for you at the bottom with a stern lecture... of course you could almost keep paddling to the door of congress if you wanted to... LOL

Awesome! Thanks James

Its going to be a challenge because with budget cuts I had my rental car replaced by an unlimited metro pass, but I think I can make it happen.

You just need a kayak backpack and some good ol' walking shoes buddy:)
If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there.
