Yes it's that time of year again. Rumor has it Ms Robe is in great shape with a new bar and lounge plus the gnomes are coming out of hibernation soon.

This year's Robe race will follow the template of years gone past, teams of 2 from T1 to above Magic Carpet. Race date is set for Saturday April 26th, backup date for April 27th, and hail mary backup for the following weekend if flows or weather are unfavorable the first weekend. To ensure maximum participation race flow range is 5.0- to 6.0-ft above or below that we'll look to postpone. Racers should be at the TO at 10am on race day.

Teams are expected to provide their own safety but if non-races are willing to setup at a few key spots that is always appreciated and handsomely rewarded. It also helpful to have timing volunteers to hike into T1 and the finish line.

That's all for now. Happy training and let the smack talking begin...boom

Has anything changed from all these high water events?

Thanks James. T-minus 1 week out, I hope everyone has their race lines dialed.

As in year's past your partner will be your primary safety for the event but if there are people who aren't racing and want to set safety please let me know. Also, we could use a finish line timer above the newly named "sobriety test"...(previously know as magic carpet).

If no one is hiking in I suggest someone paddles into the fluid/fish lounge which is right up stream of sobriety test (hence the re-name) and pop some chairs hang out and time there... it would be a better spot for "celebrating" and gathering and just right up stream of the normal end point.  lets face it im not racing to win... im here for the after party !

or how about just doing it the beginning of May because we historically always have to bump it forward every year anyway... ??

I say we Race if it's below 6.2 back when the race started people weren't running Robe regularly in the mid 6s now they are. 7 feet is the new 6 feet just saying

Hey Leif: How about postponing the race now until Sunday, when the forecast shows flows leveling off to a consistent mid-5-foot range. That's the level at which most paddlers feel comfortable in there anyway. And besides--okay, this is the real reason for my post--I'd get to participate as well. I can't participate on Saturday because the original date for the race coincides with the one Saturday I have to work.
But seriously, Saturday is looking iffy for the 5- to 6-foot range you established. Why not wait one more day for some predictability?
Catch your eddies,
Christian

So the flows and weather are making things interesting to predict. However these things I know to be mostly true;

1. Predicting a weekend where flows/weather/availability of everyone stoked to participate all coincide is about as likely as predicting when the BDP posse will give the brown claw, invent a new hyphe ridiculous phrase, and get called out on the internet all in the same day...I know practically impossible, right?

2. The robe race will almost certainly be happening this weekend. Plan A is to have the race on Saturday as planned. Paca pride is all geared up and out of towners need to make plans. Plan B will be to postpone for 1 day to Sunday. Given the precip/weather forecast for Sunday things look highly highly probable to be in the zone for Plan B.

3. We will not have a race above 6.0ft, period. However, Ms. Robe is quite fun at and above this level and it is highly likely people will still paddle through the fluffy bunnies at that level.

4. Thanks for being patient. Levels tomorrow should be a good guide. Look for an update in the afternoon. Cheerios

I'm w/ you, Tizi!
I mean, I wouldn't expect the Race Organizers to factor in mine or anyone else's availibility. But it happens I am availible this weekend. Next weekend will be tough or impossible for me.

(Shrug)

Alas, The Robe Graph this time of year is too much like my disposition: lots of erratic spikes, peaks, and troughs. Fortunately I can get a perscription to adress this ailment. Its called Whitewater. And I can get this perscription filled at the local Gnome Pharmacy...

Not that I'd wish a swim in Robe Canyon on anyone. These Gnome Remedies can be a bitter pill to swallow indeed.

It's on like donkey kong! Level was 6.1 tonight at 7pm and should be in well within range tomorrow mid-day. Be at the TO at 11am if you are racing. People wanting to set safety of paddle in front of the racers should be there a bit earlier.

Post race party at Pace pride. They are supplying some dogs and beer. Bring anything extra you think you maybe hungry for. There was also talk tonight of racers kicking down $10-20 for Paca Pride which would be rad. Please consider if you are coming to help keep the put-in situation working.

I'll be checking everything early in the AM and will post something if anything changes. No word is good word. Cheerios
