Something's been bugging me. I use Prof Paddle quite alot and am grateful for the quality content and people I've met on the various paddles I've been on. That said, there must be a cost to it. I'm a cyber dunce, so I simply have no idea what it all entails. However, my question is, who bears this cost out, whatever it is? When I go to church they pass the plate, but Professor Paddle, to my knowledge has never asked me to chip in to a resource I pretty much use alot. Is Professor Paddle a trustfunder? ; )

Cheers,

Rob,

That is an easy answer - James!  And he is not rich!

This is his passion, and anyone that has sat and had an amazing ADD riddled conversation with him will tell you. It is all his brain child. He loves it!

I know James has solicited advetisments, and backers to help disuade the expense, and may have had a measure of success??

I handle it like this, if James comes, he doesn't pay for gas, he is welcome to drink my beer, but keep away from my woman!
  Cheers, James Rocks!

well put Tobin!

Three cheers for JAMES!!!
HIP HIP HOORAY!!! (repeat three times)

Tobin's policy isn't a bad model-- and i'm sure a sliding scale sort of approach is good, too, that is to say, lots of paddlers are nearly flat broke much of the time. Even still, there's always little ways to let James know we appreciate what he does, and various gestures we can each make from time to time to help facilitate his ability to get out, and get down the river. We could all stand to keep this in mind.

Thanks, James. I probably owe you at least a full cooler full of beer, several tanks of gas, and then some.

It is amazing how this resource has matured (I'm talking about the resource, not our behavior) over a few years. It has single handedly replaced or at the very least augmented some out moded resources. I do think we all need to find ways somehow to support it and help it thrive.

Thank you all for the kind words. I hope we can all continue to build our community through this and other resources so a future generation of boaters can take over with a passion and ability to access the same amazing water and friends that I have had the ability to paddle with.

Tis true that it is not free, but I feel blessed to have the ability and job to pay for the requirements and more importantly the friends that support each other and myself. Thanks! I look forward to paddling in 2009 and more importantly bringing new members into our community to share in our passion!
